The beauty of the everyday
Alexandra Ffion is an emerging artist based in East Sussex, England. Her work explores the beauty of natural details. From all levels of perspective, her work takes inspiration from the minute patterns to the aerially photographed textures of our world. Predominantly focusing on painting and collage, her connection with the natural world is represented as vibrant abstract environments.
“I construct my paintings by visually finding ´rivers of colours and patterns´ that run naturally through the cracked canvas. The texture guides me, to reveal the depth and sculptural qualities of the process. Each formed crevice connects to the next, much like in nature and helps the painting form into a sensual experience, for the painter and the viewer.
By sensing and physically creating a mixed media representation of my encounter with the natural, I intuitively form the textures by weighing the canvas with materials. This symbolises the constantly changing landscape that I encounter. Transmitting my memories and experience onto the canvas.
The process changes with each moment as the light or sounds take my mind away from a conscious act to an automatic gesture, reacting to the pulses of life. I see our world in multiple patterns that connect far beyond the barriers of shape. They exist through memories of my travels through india, where you can taste the colours, all the way to my childhood forest where I first discovered nature.
There is never one way of looking at nature, each angle shows you a new perspective full of possible forms of creativity. She sings knowledge to your soul. It nurtures your mind to free us from the constraints of daily life. Next time you enter a forest, take the time to stop and look, totally immerse yourself. Become lost in her beauty. Let her reveal herself to you, and the mind will follow.”
