Eyes Make The Horizon
''In November 2015 I moved to the south shore of Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I did this with the intention of creating a body of photographs in response to my sustained presence in this region. These photographs have resulted. They give shape to an emotional and experiential timbre, the result of gradually seeing, photographing, and gaining an understanding of the landscape in which they were made. Throughout the creation of this work I have kept in mind the immeasurable extent to which experience informs my surroundings.
I have a longstanding history and feel a deep-set sense of place within this landscape. This is where I first experienced reverence for the natural environment and recognized myself to be a part of it. In contrast, my time spent living in this environment has made the depth of human imposition upon it inescapably apparent. This is coupled with the fact that, as a societal participant, I bear partial responsibility for this imposition. In this work I have found meaning in this tension.''
